Trane Foundation Series 7.5 Ton Commercial Gas/Electric Packaged Unit β€” 460V High Heat Configuration for Cold Climate Light Commercial Buildings

The Trane Foundation Series 7.5-ton unit in high heat configuration on 460V 3-phase power is the entry-capacity specification for cold climate commercial buildings that run high-voltage electrical infrastructure and face winter heating demands severe enough that standard or medium heat output falls short. At 86,000 BTU cooling with high heat gas output on 460V 3-phase power, this gas/electric rooftop packaged unit is purpose-built for light commercial buildings in northern climates, high-altitude locations, and cold climate geographies where 460V is the standard electrical supply, 7.5 tons accurately covers the summer cooling load, and maximum gas heat output is required to maintain occupant comfort and building safety through peak winter conditions. When the building runs 460V power, the cooling load fits 7.5 tons, and the winter heating demand pushes beyond what medium heat can deliver, this is the configuration that addresses all three requirements simultaneously without compromise.

High Heat Configuration β€” Maximum Winter Output in 460V Light Commercial Buildings

The combination of high heat configuration and 460V power supply defines a specific commercial building profile β€” light commercial facilities in cold climate zones that were built with or upgraded to high-voltage electrical infrastructure and face genuine winter heating challenges that medium heat configuration cannot adequately address. Smaller manufacturing support offices in cold northern industrial parks, light commercial buildings in high-altitude Mountain West locations running 460V infrastructure, professional offices in upper Midwest markets built to industrial electrical standards, and institutional light commercial facilities in New England cold climate zones β€” these are the buildings where 7.5-ton 460V high heat is the precise specification. Specifying high heat at entry tonnage on 460V power from installation eliminates the costly alternative of supplemental heating equipment retrofitted to cover a medium heat shortfall in a building where the HVAC system is already sized at entry capacity.

14.6 IEER β€” Maximum Foundation Series Efficiency at 460V High Heat Entry Capacity

The high heat gas configuration on this 7.5-ton 460V unit carries no cooling efficiency penalty. The same 14.6 IEER delivered by the 7.5-ton 208/230V high heat variant is fully maintained in the 460V high heat configuration β€” no efficiency trade-off for the voltage step-up, no efficiency compromise for the high heat gas specification. For cold climate building owners running 460V infrastructure who might assume that specifying both high heat and 460V power involves some efficiency cost on the cooling side, the Foundation Series engineering delivers all three simultaneously: maximum gas heat output, top-tier 14.6 IEER cooling efficiency, and factory-rated 460V electrical compatibility in a single factory-assembled rooftop package.

460V 3-Phase β€” High Voltage Advantage in Cold Climate Light Commercial Buildings

At 7.5-ton capacity in a high heat configuration, the 460V electrical advantage adds a practical dimension that the 208/230V high heat variant doesn't offer. The amperage reduction at 460V versus 208/230V at 7.5-ton load β€” meaningful on any Foundation Series unit at this tonnage β€” is especially valuable in cold climate 460V commercial buildings where the electrical infrastructure investment already exists and the lower amperage draw translates directly into reduced wire sizing, smaller conduit runs, and lower disconnect requirements at installation. For contractors bidding cold climate commercial mechanical and electrical scopes where 460V infrastructure is already in place, the high heat 460V configuration delivers the correct heat output, the correct voltage compatibility, and a cleaner, lower-cost electrical rough-in than a 208/230V unit would require in the same building.

R-454B Refrigerant β€” Cold Climate Long-Term Protection on 460V Infrastructure

Cold climate light commercial buildings running 460V infrastructure span a range of building types and ages β€” from newer light industrial support facilities to established institutional buildings that have run 460V power for decades. Across all of them, R-454B is the correct refrigerant specification for any new rooftop HVAC installation today, and in cold climate buildings where annual operating hours are higher than in moderate climate markets, that specification matters more. Extended heating seasons mean more total runtime per year, accelerating the timeline toward service events and amplifying the cost and disruption of any mid-lifecycle equipment intervention. R-454B specified at installation eliminates the largest of those mid-lifecycle risks β€” a forced refrigerant retrofit driven by R-410A phase-down β€” across the full service life of a 7.5-ton unit running high heat output through extended cold climate winters on 460V power.

All-In-One Gas/Electric β€” Complete Cold Climate HVAC in One 460V Entry Package

In cold climate light commercial buildings running 460V power, the all-in-one gas/electric Foundation Series design delivers complete HVAC coverage in a single factory-assembled rooftop package matched to the building's existing electrical infrastructure. One 460V unit, one roof curb, one high-voltage electrical connection, one refrigerant circuit, and one service relationship covers maximum winter high heat output and full 86,000 BTU summer cooling capacity β€” without a separate gas heating plant, without dual-system commissioning, and without split service responsibility between heating and cooling contractors in a climate zone where winter service coordination is already more complex and more time-sensitive than in moderate markets.

Single-Stage Operation β€” Entry Capacity Simplicity in Cold Climate 460V Buildings

Single-stage control at 7.5-ton capacity in a 460V high heat configuration keeps the system at its most straightforward across the full range of cold climate operating conditions β€” from peak summer cooling at 86,000 BTU to maximum high heat gas output during severe winter conditions, and through all the shoulder-season cycling that a northern climate building generates between those extremes. At entry tonnage in a cold climate 460V building, single-stage design keeps commissioning fast, service calls short, and first-call resolution rates high β€” in a climate zone and building type where HVAC service complexity has its highest cost impact relative to building size.

Why Cold Climate 460V Contractors Specify This Unit

  • High heat configuration delivers maximum gas heat output for 460V light commercial buildings in cold climates
  • 86,000 BTU entry cooling capacity accurately covers light commercial floor plates in every cold climate zone
  • 14.6 IEER fully maintained β€” no efficiency penalty for high heat specification or 460V configuration
  • Factory-rated 460V β€” purpose-built for high-voltage cold climate commercial infrastructure
  • Lower amperage draw at 460V reduces wire sizing and electrical rough-in costs at entry tonnage
  • R-454B refrigerant eliminates mid-lifecycle retrofit risk across extended cold climate 460V operating life
  • All-in-one gas/electric package covers peak winter high heat and peak summer cooling on one 460V connection
  • Single-stage operation maximizes first-call resolution rates at entry capacity in cold climate service environments
  • Trane Foundation Series reliability and full factory warranty at entry 460V capacity in every cold climate market

Which system is better Gas system or Heat Pump system? (Video)

Heat Pump System:
Heats and cools your home using electricity and outdoor air. More energy-efficient, lower operating costs, environmentally friendly, and works well in moderate to warm climates. Qualifies for rebates and tax credits.

Gas System:
Uses natural gas for heating and requires a separate air conditioner for cooling. Better for extreme cold climates where heat pumps are less efficient. Higher fuel costs but may have lower upfront equipment expenses.

Best choice depends on:Β Your climate (heat pumps excel in Georgia), budget for upfront costs, long-term energy savings goals, and environmental priorities. Heat pumps typically save more money over time through lower utility bills. Contact our team for a personalized recommendation based on your home and location.

How do I know I am choosing the appropriate system?

The best way to ensure you've chosen the right system is to match it with your home's cooling and heating needs. Consider your home's square footage, climate, insulation, and the number of zones you want to control. You can look at the sizing guide here, and our support team can help you narrow down options based on your specific situation. If you're unsure, we recommend consulting with a professional HVAC technician who can perform a detailed load calculation for your home.

Should I choose a Split System or a Packaged System for my home? (Video)

Split System:Β Features separate indoor and outdoor units ideal for homes with basements or crawlspaces. Offers higher SEER ratings, better efficiency, and more customization for placement.

Packaged System:Β Contains all components in one outdoor unit, perfect for smaller homes or limited indoor space. Easier to install with lower maintenance needs.

Quick decision:Β Have indoor space? Choose split for superior efficiency. Limited space? Choose packaged.

What's the best way to calculate the correct capacity and tonnage for my home?

HVAC sizing is measured in tons, where one ton equals 12,000 BTUs of cooling capacity. While you can estimate using square footage (roughly 600 square feet per ton for residential homes), the most accurate method is a professional Manual J load calculation that considers your home's insulation, orientation, windows, climate, and occupancy patterns.

Tonnage => BTU/Hour
1 ton => 12,000 BTU
1.5 ton => 18,000 BTU
2 ton => 24,000 BTU
2.5 ton => 30,000 BTU
3 ton => 36,000 BTU
3.5 ton => 42,000 BTU
4 ton => 48,000 BTU
5 ton => 60,000 BTU

Home Size (Sq. Ft.) => Recommended Tonnage
750–1,000 => 2 tons
1,050–1,400 => 2.5 tons
1,450–1,700 => 3 tons
1,750–1,900 => 3.5 tons
1,950–2,200 => 4 tons
2,250+ => 5 tons

Important: Undersizing leads to inadequate cooling; oversizing wastes energy and money. When in doubt, consult a professional. Reach out to us at sales@acunitsforless.com or via Live Chat.

What's the best way to calculate the correct capacity and tonnage for my home for multiple units?

If you're planning multiple units (for a ductless mini-split system or zoned setup), calculate the cooling needs for each zone or room separately using the same Manual J methodology. Add the tonnage requirements for each area to determine your total system capacity. For example, if your master bedroom is 800 sq. ft. (requiring 1.5 tons) and your living room is 1,200 sq. ft. (requiring 2 tons), you'd want a 3.5-ton system or a multi-zone setup with smaller indoor units. Our team can help you design a custom multi-zone layout based on your home's layout and needs.

Information regarding Trane Residential Systems:

Currently due to regulations, we are only selling and shipping Trane Residential units in the state of Georgia.

What is SEER and SEER2?

SEERΒ stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio-it measures how efficiently an air conditioning or heat pump system operates over an entire cooling season.

SEER2Β stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio 2-it's the updated, more accurate standard introduced in 2023. SEER2 provides a more realistic assessment of real-world performance by testing at various load levels and temperature conditions.

What is the difference between SEER and SEER2? (Video)

The key difference is how the systems are tested.

SEER testing used fixed temperature conditions and didn't fully account for the external static pressure in typical duct systems.

SEER2 testing is more comprehensive-it accounts for varying temperatures (65Β°F to 104Β°F), includes partial-load efficiency testing to mimic real-world fluctuating demands, and uses proper duct system static pressure to prioritize furnace blower efficiency.

Important to know:SEER2 ratings are typically 4–7% lower than SEER ratings for the same system because the testing is stricter and more realistic. For example, a 16 SEER system might have a SEER2 rating of around 14. Don't compare old SEER numbers directly to new SEER2 ratings-they use different standards.

Are there any rebate programs available?

Yes! The Home Energy Improvement Program through Georgia Power offers incentives for qualified customers in the state of Georgia purchasing high-efficiency HVAC systems like ductless mini-split heat pumps or heat pump water heaters. Our salesperson share incentive details at purchase to help you save on premium equipment. Additional rebates may be available through your local utility company or federal programs-visit Energy.gov to check your area. Ask our team for your AHRI certificate to submit rebate applications.

Note:To qualify, you must be a Georgia Power customer.

Where can I get an AHRI certificate?

You can find the AHRI certificate on the AHRIΒ website here.

How to find a compatible split system?

For split systems, your indoor unit must be properly matched with your outdoor unit (condenser) to achieve the rated efficiency and ensure system longevity. You can always visit the AHRI website and use their AHRI Matchup tool to find a compatible system. The best way to find help is to reach out to us via Live Chat or email sales@acunitsforless.com.

What is the R-32 refrigerant? (Video)

R-32 is a single-component, low-GWP refrigerant used in modern HVAC systems as an eco-friendly alternative to R-410A. It has a Global Warming Potential of 675-one-third lower than R-410A (GWP 2,088)-and offers zero ozone depletion potential. R-32 delivers approximately 10% better energy efficiency and improved heat transfer, requires 30% less refrigerant charge, and has been safely used in over 160 million units worldwide since 2012. It's classified as A2L (mildly flammable) and represents the next generation of environmentally sustainable cooling technology.

Why choose R-454B refrigerant? (Video)

R-454B is the next-generation, environmentally friendly refrigerant with the lowest Global Warming Potential (GWP of 466) compared to R-32 and R-410A. It maintains high efficiency, meets current EPA regulations, and ensures your system remains compliant for years to come. Choosing R-454B means investing in future-proof technology that's better for the environment and your wallet.

Why did we stop selling R-410A refrigerant systems?

Effective January 1, 2025, the EPA enacted a regulation prohibiting manufacturers from producing or importing new HVAC systems using R-410A. This is because R-410A has a very high Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 2,088-meaning it contributes significantly to climate change if released into the atmosphere.
